Dan Peel, CEng MICE
Dan is a very skilled and experienced civil engineer with a number of key attributes. He has a broad knowledge base and contributes significantly to the overall understanding of civil structures.
Within Engineering Paddler Designs he examines the suitability of the ground to support any channels or structures and is an expert in the use of composite wrapping of structures to increase their structural strength. Dan also conducts the structural assessment of existing structures, including bridges, both road and rail. In addition, Dan has extensive experience of liaison with the Environment Agency (EA) for Land Drainage Consents and planning works to comply with the EA's pollution prevention guidelines relating to works in watercourses.
Dan is regularly the author of feasibility studies involving numerous scenarios and is fully conversant in structural design of masonry, concrete and steel structures.
Previous experience as a geotechnical engineer, within a foundations services group, provides EPD design capability on pile capacity and drivability analysis, as well as broader aspects of pile design including fatigue analysis.
Dan started paddling seriously at Newcastle University and went on to spend several years running the canoe club there. Staying in touch with friends from university and others Dan has developed a network of kayaking colleagues which has enabled him to pursue the sport around the world. Locations include: the European Alps; Zambia; Norway; New Zealand; California; Chile; British Colombia and the Northwest Territories.
Within the UK he has paddled dozens of rivers in the UK including all the popular destinations:Tryweryn, The Bitches, Holme Pierrepont, Tees Barrage, Tyne Tour, Dee Tour, Cardington, Washburn, Hurley Weir.
Dan has written and co written a number of articles for the canoeing press with his fellow Poly club members on trips in the UK and abroad. He has also provided advertising material and photographs in sponsorship deals with major manufacturers and suppliers.
