Engineering Paddler Designs

Rich Clarke

Rich is a fully qualified Physical Education teacher at a school in the North East of England. He has undertaken educational research projects in addition to his regular teaching of more conventional sports as well as outdoor pursuits.

Interestingly his fieldwork and curriculum planning includes both PE and geographical elements, having completed his first degree in geography. He organises syllabuses for PE and geography and is acutely aware of the requirements of fieldwork, external visits and participation.

Richard brings to the team first hand experience of good practice in ensuring that facilities are designed and run to provide the optimum and safe experience for school children and youth groups. He knows what his fellow teachers require and adds this into the design process for any whitewater and outdoor educational facility.

Richard is a keen whitewater and polo paddler.

He regularly plays for local and national teams with several successes. Richard has also travelled around the globe paddling a number of notable paddling destinations including Nepal, European Alps and the Amazon Basin.

He has paddled most of the major sites in the UK with regular visits to Teesside, Tryweryn and HPP. Richard has a trip planned for this summer to Uganda to paddle on the White Nile.
